RUBBER SAFETY SURFACINGCOMING SOON

Play areas that are softer to land on

Coming soon: a cushioned rubber surface for playgrounds, school yards and daycare play spaces. It goes down as one continuous surface, and it can carry your logo, a hopscotch court or a child-friendly pattern in color.

Colored arcs set into a play surface

Where it goes

Playgrounds

Under and around play equipment, where falls happen.

Schools

Recess yards, play structures and outdoor learning areas.

Daycares and churches

Toddler play spaces and fenced play yards.

Homes

Backyard play sets and swing areas.

Make it theirs

Colors, shapes and pictures are laid into the surface itself, so they don't peel or wear off like paint. A few ideas:

  • Your school or daycare logo at the entrance to the play area
  • Hopscotch, number lines, letters and shapes for learning games
  • A path, river or racetrack that winds around the equipment
  • School colors, or soft colors that calm a toddler room

Safety, in plain terms

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission calls protective surfacing "one of the most important factors in reducing the likelihood of life-threatening head injuries" on playgrounds.

How much protection a surface gives depends on its depth and the height a child could fall from. The CPSC recommends asking for the manufacturer's ASTM F1292 test data showing the surface's critical height rating, and that rating should be at least the height of your tallest piece of equipment. We give you that data for the system and depth we quote, before you sign.

Accessibility counts too. The CPSC points to ASTM F1951 for surfaces that wheelchairs and walkers can roll across.
